FyreTV.com: Will It Float?

Supposedly, FyreTV is the next logical step in the porn revolution on the Internet, but this time as IPTV. Considering that the porn industry on both sides of the Atlantic is suffering from the ill effects of poor DVD sales brought on mainly by saturation of the marketplace as well as other factors . . . this is probably not the best market climate to propose a risky endeavor. However, let’s me take you through the pluses/minuses of this innovation.

The Pluses:

  • No more DVDs meaning you don’t have to hide your secret porn stash that you’ve been collecting over the years
  • Flat fee of 9.99 USD
The Minuses:
  • Requires a 1 Mbps connection to enjoy smooth DVD quality video, but it will downscale to match a minimum of 700 Kbps
  • Most titles will probably NOT be in High Definition
  • Weak Selection of Production Studios except for Teravision to name a few.

While I favor the great price-point of 9.99/month, I do think that this venture is risky to say the least. I think that this technology will probably be ‘in style’ once broadband connections become much cheaper than they are now. It’s not ready for prime-time. Even the cable companies are struggling with mainstream videos on demand, SD and HD combined.
